Things I did on the Las Vegas Strip:
Hung out in the arcade at the Luxor
Had a bananna split at Cafe Gelato in the Bellagio
Saw the dancing waters show 3 1/2 times (didn't know Rebecca Romijn choreographed it)
Walked through the forum shops at Caesar's Palace (Chanel! Fendi! Fred Leighton!)
Played $5 at the slots (& lost it all)
Had the best drink I've ever had in my life (frozen lemonade, rasberry pucker, vodka)
Almost threw up due to alcohol + ice cream combination
Fun fun fun - relaxing in SoCal for a few days, then Ojai, then home.

It's this organization that tries to set up artist in residence type things in Japan. This link is just to a survey actually, but I thought maybe you or one of your friends would want to check it out. You seem like the kinda girl who might have a fair amount of friends interested in art and / or Japan ;) It's more focused on visual art, I believe, but at the bottom they have "theatre" "writing" and "performance" options too.
Ok...as soon as I wrote that I realized that theater is totally a visual art. So what's the correct terminology to distinguish the category of theatrical art from like..painting and sculpture, et al. ? Sorry if that's a dumb question...
Follow-up question. How do YOU generally choose to spell theater / theatre? And for you, does one spelling connote the building, and one the art and practice of?
:) now i feel like I'M surveying you....
As for the questions: I usually spell it 'theater' if I'm talking about the art form, and 'theatre' if I'm talking about a building or a company. But not everybody does that - basically it's generally accepted that theater is the american spelling and theatre is the british spelling of both. But often in america the spellings get mixed around.
I do think theater is actually considered a performance art (not "performance art" like mime or performative installations) as far as directing and acting/dancing is concerned, but I would guess that the design aspects of theater are also a visual art? I dunno.
