Things I did on my vacation (last week):
Played frisbee in Ojai on Easter Sunday with various excellent friends (one of whom did not show up like a complete douchebag even though we never see him and he had 2 weeks notice). Then went and got homemade ice cream before going back home for Easter dinner.
Cleaned out my gradparents storage shed. Ended up with some of my grandma's china and silver, an awesome pendulum clock, and a pencil drawing of my mom when she was 10.
Hung out with various members of the extended family, some of whom I hadn't seen for six or so years.
Hung out a lot with Cj's family, lovely as always.
Went to Disneyland and got silhouette portraits done, pictures will come when I am not insane, whenever that might be. Forgot how "without resolution" end of the Snow White's Adventure ride is.
Went out with both current and future sisters and got bridesmaid dresses. Also bought possibly the shortest skirt I have ever owned. (picstocome)
Worked on the quilt a bit before I remembered everything I had to do.
Hung out on a boat with the parents of the Lovely Miss Allison Whom I Hung Out With Much In High School, and ate a ton of her Mom's scrumptious apple crisp.
Finished my grant application. Oh yeah, I'm doing one of those. Won't know whether or not I get it until July 21st. I'm applying for it in the event that I don't get in to CalArts (see below), as it will allow me to work at a company without them having to pay me out of their own pocket.
Drove back to Ojai to visit with Cj's grandpa.
Drove home, then checked the mail.
Got waitlisted at CalArts.
They'll let me know somewhere around June 1st if a spot opens up. Yyyeeearrrrgh.
SO,
Drove over the hill to drop off my portion of the grant application, then drove back and got a sad, sick little Cj some dinner, nyquil, and orange juice.
By the way, Cj got a tattoo. And it's really cool.

p.s. I've retired my old icon of cate for one much more suitable.

I'm exhausted, but happy.
This weekend I'd planned to see two shows in addition to Delizie (which somehow came together at the last minute and worked), but I was so wiped that instead a friend and I decided to have a little mini-vacation. We drove to Carmel and went shopping for lingerie, both bought the same shirt in different colors, and then drove home to have dinner with our respective significant others only to discover that there was a downed power line or something right next to my house, and the power was out to my entire neighborhood. When I walked in the door I found my poor little puppy sitting in the dark shivering with the burglar alarm going off. Cj and I lit a bunch of candles and decided to take a bath, during which I leaned back into the candles and singed the back of my head. I didn't get too much hair, so you can't tell, but it was definitely an interesting experience.
As for Sunday: Saw Spiderman 3. I have several complaints, but at the core of them is -

Not enough Venom. Nuff said.
Frisbee, as everyone has said, was a bit disappointing. I played just about the crappiest game I've ever played (of ANYTHING), but sort of redeemed myself towards the end. I guess. Then we stopped off at
theoni's work (bakery!) to go to the bathroom and regroup.
RE: Bakery - Every time I go to that bakery I think about what my cake will look like when I get married. I'm thinkin' simple white buttercream with something absolutely decadent inside, fresh flowers on the outside, and a keepsake cake topper. A while ago I was looking around online and I found the perfect one - it's exactly like my relationship with Cj. It's called "Let's Make Up" by Lladro but that's not why I like it. It just looks like us.

Cute, no? ;)
School: I need to catch up in Directing Studio. I'm acting in a scene from Angels in America that someone else in the class is directing, and it's been a while since I've acted in anything so I'm a little nervous. I also need to find a second male actor for my own piece, which is proving a bit difficult, but I'm sure it'll go well.
Well, off to grade quizzes and papers... the life of a TA.

I just got back from two days of rehearsals in Berkeley. There was a lot going on, and I'm wiped.
Also I missed classes that I really didn't want to miss.
I just paid $900 in bills for this month, and I don't even pay rent.
Whine, whine whine.
Side note: There was a wild turkey outside the house where we were staying, and it kept us up all night, gobbling.
Gobble Gobble Gobble.
I'm in a weird mood.

I should have put my annual appointment at Student Health on that to do list.
As it is, I missed it because of a rescheduling snafu.
I need a life manager.

UGHHH. The cold I thought I was getting over during the show got even WORSE. At least it's starting to clear up a bit now, but I was on solid dayquil then nyquil for a full day while I got final projects done in all my classes.
I spent *8* hours in the letterpress lab on Wednesday trying to make my print work, five of which my teacher was in there with me in a complete state of bafflement. She had to leave to get to a meeting, but later emailed me this plaintive apology that she couldn't figure out what was going on, which made me feel a bit sad for making her so confused. My print has lots of typefaces in it, some of which are higher or lower than others for some reason, and some words of which weren't getting any ink at all. Or certain letters in words were getting ink, but not others. It was a disaster. To top it all off, Cj bought me watercolor paper instead of print paper and it was breaking some of the letters when I tried to print. My instructor gave me different paper before she left and that was helping, but still other things were going wrong. Finally my dayquil started to wear off and I got grouchy and just ended up hand-inking the type with a mini roller before each pass, which gave it an over-soaked look, but got all the words inked. I didn't finish the back, but I'm not sure that I'm going to at all. It was just such a nightmare.
That night I stayed up late trying to work on my installation piece for another one of my classes, featuring a large dummy torso with its heart drilled out, a halo of twine suspended from the ceiling with skulls and hearts hanging from it, a paper-mache hand holding a pen writing a message on some paper, and transparencies in the windows with quotes from some of the books we read in class. It was pretty labor intensive, and had to all be assembled the next day (Thursday). We left in time to get there 2 hours before class and set everything up, but a trip to home depot to get fishing line and wood chips for the floor took almost an hour, so we only had an hour to put it all together. Even with Cj RUNNING with the bags of wood chips, we were 20 minutes late to class, but the installation went over really well and everyone was excited.
Then I had work on Friday. Wasn't this supposed to be my off week? Maybe next week is my off week. This is what I keep telling myself.

I am having an awful, awful day.
My doctor's appointment, which I had told them to make for 11:30, was instead made for 1:30, during my favorite class (letterpress printing). I got in there late because their new electronic check in system didn't register me so they had to take all my information twice. There was a huge line for the lab, a huge line for the pharmacy, I didn't even get my prescription because it would have taken a long time to wait for it (have to go back tomorrow), and to top it all off the scheduling office LOST ALL MY PAPERWORK to schedule rooms for the show, so I had to SIT THERE for 45 minutes while they tried to schedule me in places. I turned in that paper over 3 weeks ago. I have been coming in to the office to check on it every week. I emailed the head of scheduling 4 weeks ago about venues, and she hadn't even looked at it. That is the problem with it - there is only one woman doing all the scheduling for all the student organizations. So anyway, needless to say we didn't get our first choice ANYTHING. I nearly started crying when she told me she didn't have any of my paperwork. I came this close.
As it was, I burst into tears in the hallway in front of my letterpress TA, who led me over to coffee hour and had me eat some cheese-its and calm down before going back to talk to the teacher. I ended up being 3 hours late to my 4 hour class. Thank God for
the1andonlycj - he scheduled me for the last possible print session so I can have plenty of time to work on my project, which I am nowhere near finishing even though I stayed super late after my Monday lab. Some people are printing as soon as tomorrow morning.
Anyway, I came home after class to 7 missed calls (did I mention I forgot my phone this morning because I was trying to finish a homework assignment for said letterpress class and got all frazzled?), one of which was from one of my good friends who has been in an ongoing fight with another of my good friends, her roommate. Both of them are in the show, and both of us are completely drained and on the verge of tears, but at least I don't have to work tonight (she does).
Oh. And the final straw is that my doctor's appointment was a gynecologist appointment, so I've been feeling gross all day.
Also my dog jumped on my stomach and knocked the wind out of me. But that's just the icing on the cake, my friend.
I'm eating rasberries and trying to calm down a little before I take my bath. My head is pouding. So if you can't get ahold of me tonight or if you talk to me and I sound sullen, you'll know why.
