Someone has stolen my Ipod.
I am NOT happy.
I am NOT happy.
Things I did on my vacation (last week):
Played frisbee in Ojai on Easter Sunday with various excellent friends (one of whom did not show up like a complete douchebag even though we never see him and he had 2 weeks notice). Then went and got homemade ice cream before going back home for Easter dinner.
Cleaned out my gradparents storage shed. Ended up with some of my grandma's china and silver, an awesome pendulum clock, and a pencil drawing of my mom when she was 10.
Hung out with various members of the extended family, some of whom I hadn't seen for six or so years.
Hung out a lot with Cj's family, lovely as always.
Went to Disneyland and got silhouette portraits done, pictures will come when I am not insane, whenever that might be. Forgot how "without resolution" end of the Snow White's Adventure ride is.
Went out with both current and future sisters and got bridesmaid dresses. Also bought possibly the shortest skirt I have ever owned. (picstocome)
Worked on the quilt a bit before I remembered everything I had to do.
Hung out on a boat with the parents of the Lovely Miss Allison Whom I Hung Out With Much In High School, and ate a ton of her Mom's scrumptious apple crisp.
Finished my grant application. Oh yeah, I'm doing one of those. Won't know whether or not I get it until July 21st. I'm applying for it in the event that I don't get in to CalArts (see below), as it will allow me to work at a company without them having to pay me out of their own pocket.
Drove back to Ojai to visit with Cj's grandpa.
Drove home, then checked the mail.
Got waitlisted at CalArts.
They'll let me know somewhere around June 1st if a spot opens up. Yyyeeearrrrgh.
SO,
Drove over the hill to drop off my portion of the grant application, then drove back and got a sad, sick little Cj some dinner, nyquil, and orange juice.
By the way, Cj got a tattoo. And it's really cool.

p.s. I've retired my old icon of cate for one much more suitable.

8 AM
Got up for a production meeting 1 1/2 hours away but which was scheduled for 11:00 (because it was raining and we all know how people drive in the rain). I also was able to get gas and Starbucks.
10:45 AM
Met Stage Manager in rehearsal room so she could show me the way to the main offices.
10:50 AM
Stood outside looking silly for a few moments while Stage Manager ran back inside to get something. A schoolmate (who now works at the same company I do) kindly offered me a ride over to the offices after they dropped something off. I accepted, then called out "Nevermind!" and ditched ride because Stage Manager came back outside.
11:00 AM
Got to offices and realized Ride might not have heard "Nevermind." Called them on the phone and apologized.
11:05 AM - 1:00 PM
Production meeting.
1:00 - 2:00 PM
Lunch break. Ate sandwich from Starbucks.
2:00 - 6:00 PM
Rehearsal (Table Reading)
6:00 - 6:45 PM
Frantically drove to a 6:30 call at show I'm running projections for, a half hour away. Notice I was late. I'm also missing the evening rehearsal.
6:45 - 7:00 PM
Did half hour's worth of prep in 15 minutes. Luckily my awesome ASM booted up all the computers for me, or I never would have made it.
Curtain up at 7:30.
X_X
This is my dead face. See? I still have to drive home after the show, but at least it's a slightly earlier curtain.
God, I can't wait for this week to be over.

Earlier today in a coffee shop while waiting for my carpool, I sat next to some (clearly university) students who were adding -y or -ie to all their words - as in, "Oh look, I got a texty." "Who's it from?" "Georgie!" "Oh my god, that is so presh." I kind of stared into space for a while so I wouldn't roll my eyes or make inadvertent scornful faces at them.
Then, while walking from the parking garage to the theater, I saw this gorgeous, tall, dark haired teenage girl wearing black high heels and an impeccably tailored copper-sequined minidress. She had a young guy next to her dressed in an all-black suit who was putting his jacket around her shoulders, and I just kind of melted inside.
But when I walked up next to them, the girl said in this really whiney voice "Oh my GAWWWD it's fucking FREEZING out here! Did you just poke me with your butonniere? Hey Jess, he just poked me with his butonniere! We should fucking call Shawna, is she out here? Oh my GAWD, look, your jacket is longer than my dress!" (insert annoying laugh here and comments from other members of the party.)
Is glamour dead? Is class? Sometimes I think so. And there I am, in my polka dot rain boots, kicking my feet slightly to stir up the big crunchy piles of leaves.
In a possibly related note, I think I put my pants on backwards today.

Rain does not mean that the double yellow line has suddenly disappeared and you can right into the left turn lane while the yellow is still happening.
Seriously, people. Learn how to drive in the rain. I almost got killed four times today.

It's so nice having my days free now that the show's opened. I get to take a long bath, read a magazine, take care of bills and errands, eat two-three meals with my honey... even go to the salon. Yes, that's right folks, I'm pampering myself. Got my eyebrows done today and I'm going to get my first haircut since this summer on Friday. Any suggestions? I don't know what to do with myself now that my hair's longer than my shoulders.
Oh, I forgot that I get to SEE THE SUN. Important after being in a dark theater for 10 hours a day for the past two weeks. Yes.

Wugh.
So most of the last couple of days has been spent taking care of sick Cj, working substitute retail shifts, and preparing for the enormous booksigning events happening at the store. Today was no different, but for some reason it felt like it really sucked. I dunno why, I just felt incompetent and grumpy. Couple that with problems at the post office and a worry about getting everything done, and I feel kinda crappy.
Everybody post silly pictures and cheer me up, plz.

Yes, I'm sure you all wanted to know.
I've got my Statement of Purpose revised and mostly finished, now I just need to customize it for each school. The hardest is going to be Brown, because they want it limited to one page and I've got a page and a half, and I'm really being very concise. I'm sure I'll figure it out, but it's a pain. None of the other schools have a limit posted, so I have to email the admissions departments and see.
I did manage to get my resume down to one page by taking off the education and teaching sections (the ed stuff is going to be on all my applications anyway, and most of the schools have seperate applications for teaching).
It's nice to be making progress though, cause I just found out I need to write an additional couple of essays for some of the applications. Boy am I glad I started early.
Laundry today, Movie night tonight. Should be fun - I'm making cookies :)

Things go on as they have for the last few months.
I sew, I intern, I work on applications, I clean the house. Sometimes (rarely) I work.
I'm working this weekend. Retail tomorrow, then an event on sunday (with an adoptable dog fair, which I'm looking forward to).
Cj's mom came up and visited recently which was lovely - we went to the Winchester Mystery House (one of my favorite places) and took a ton of pictures, which I'll post here soon.
I guess I'm not feeling much like writing right now, but there it is.

Uuuuuuggh. I got a call last night that someone called in sick and since they were expecting a rush for a couple of big name authors they couldn't be short staffed. When did they need me? 8am, of course. Ah well.
So I sat in traffic this morning for 45 minutes and was 20 minutes late (damn you, traffic, damn you), which didn't matter too much since one of the managers was driving the other way and saw how bad the traffic was, plus I called ahead, plus I stayed later than usual. I'm starting to get a little more comfortable ith the computer system, which makes things go a whole lot quicker. Also I saw the person that directed a bunch of my elementary/middle school plays, so it was fun to tell her about the stuff I've been doing lately. A little bit of validation.
Frisbee was good and apparently I played well, despite feeling pretty much like crap the entire time. I think I might have tweaked a back muscle, though. Also I had the beginnings of a really monster headache. When I got home (after a fun evening at Chevy's with Joe, Cj and Dave), I ran the hottest bath I could stand, lit a bunch of candles, and kind of curled up into the fetal position in the dark while listening to Joni Mitchell.
Yeah. It was pretty pathetic.
Unfortunately the headache didn't get any better, so I crawled into bed around 10 and watched some of "Moonstruck" until Cj came to bed.
Aside from that, I've been making some real progress on my quilt. After I finally got the two year old to go to sleep on Friday, I sat for a good hour and a half piecing some things together. I learned how to make triangles the other day, and I'm also working on a border that's like a row of mini-quilts within the larger quilt. I'll post pictures when I get it to a manageable size.

Last night I was watching Cj laugh while he was playing with the dog in the hallway. It was nice to think to myself "I have a nice home" and have it have nothing to do with the building I'm in or the stuff I have around me.
Going to play frisbee today on the beach, then maybe watch A Scanner Darkly. Tomorrow I need to go shop my resume around some more and try to find a part time job that doesn't make me want to kill myself.
